This blog is a creation of Steve Davis, host of “Neptune Currents,” a radio program on listener-sponsored community radio station KKUP (91.5 FM) in the San Jose, California metropolitan area. Info on KKUP at www.kkup.org (dot com works too!). Not currently streaming online, but KKUP broadcasts throughout the South Bay & Santa Cruz/Monterey areas… and beyond.
Heard on Sundays from 8-11 AM, “Neptune Currents” features an eclectic blend of ambient, electronic and contemplative music. This blog will feature playlists for the radio program, recommendations, announcements of concerts of interest, etc.
Steve Davis currently lives in San Francisco, California with his wife Carol (also an occasional co-host of “Neptune Currents”) and their two tabby cats, Hina and Mimi.
Mr. Davis also works professionally as Associate Producer for the nationally syndicated “Hearts of Space” program, hosted by Stephen Hill. More info on “Hearts of Space” at www.hos.com.
Dear Steve,
I just ran across some music by an electronic music pioneer that I never heard of but you may well be familiar with. I have been interested in electronic music since I was a kid listening to Walter Carlos (Wendy Carlos) starting in 1971. I saw Laurie Anderson in 1977 and Tangerine Dream at the Warfield in SF back in 1980. I have other pursuits which I dedicated myself to so I have never researched electronic music, I just enjoy the stuff I have run across. Your show has been a great resource for me. I can’t believe I have never heard of Laurie Spiegel. Slate magazine just did a piece on her relating to a song of hers being used for Hunger Games.

This led me to a track called Patchwork from her 1980 album “the Expanding Universe”.
Wow, this is great. I wonder if you could do a show, or part of a show, featuring her work.
